Tomorrow, we honour thy fathers..
Wow.. tomorrow is Father’s Day.
Honestly, I don’t really give much thought to such "celebratory" days. But.. I just want to thank my father for..
- promising to take us to some ‘hutan lipur’ (forest), but till today, I’ve never step foot in one with him. He was a regular jungle man in his heyday, because of his then occupation. I wished that he did..so that I could watch him, brandishing his parang around, tackling tigers and leeches.
- promising to take us kite-flying, after buying us a huge beautiful kite. But, he never got the time.
- promising to show us how to throw a boomerang. He got this and learnt how to. But, he never got the time to share this knowledge.
I really want to thank him, because during those times when he promised us, his time, he couldn’t give. Because he had to work hard to put food on the table. I was little too young to really grasp the idea of recession, but I understood the weight of this issue.
But, he did teach me how to change car tyres, batteries, fix minor plumbing/toilet problems, change socket heads, put and check the car oil, check the water, change my wiper blades, mow the lawn, clean the lawn-mower and many many more ‘man-ly’ things.
I cannot tell you how empowering it was…for a little girl to learn all that from her Papa. He never once question my gender. He just was happy that I was interested.
When I wrote the meme about ME… I started asking him questions about his naughty childhood..and I’m so glad I asked. The stories he told me, were so hilarious! Now I know where I got my naughty genes from! He is losing his memory (it’s all in our genes..sigh!)..so I must continue bugging him to remember…so that I will be able to share this with my boys.
Sigh..so emo now. I really don’t want to let him ‘go’.
I can’t type anymore…eyes too watery already.
