mott’s mutterings

October 12, 2008

A typical day for me..

I’m sure that alot of people think that SAHMs really do nothing but shake legs at home. Watching endless HK/Korean serials and ..really, ‘pak woo ying’.

I wish that was my life. Typically my day can start from 4.30am (if and when No.3 wakes up for a feed and refuses to sleep thereafter - I literally have to teman him) and I’ll be moving on on on till about 9.30pm..that’s when I really crash. Sometimes, No.3 will wake for a feed between 10.30pm - 11.30pm…which takes about an hour. So, there are days when I only knock off at 12am.

But, a normal day for me is this (Mon - Sun..heh..no rest for the wicked!)

7am - Everyone is all wide awake. Except me. I’m on auto-pilot.

7.30am - The 2 boys would have been dressed, brushed their teeth/washed face and sitting down for breakie. Throw laundry in w.machine.

8am- No.3 would be having his breakie. Yes..poor fler has to wait till the bigger flers are all done.

8.10am - Get ready for school.

8.30am - Drop off No.1 at school.

8.50am - Put No.3 down for his morning nap.

9am - Hang Laundry. Start preparing lunch for No.2 and No.3.

10am - Wake No.3, sometimes I have to lug both of them out for some grocery shopping.

11am - No.3 has lunch.

11.30am - No.2 has lunch.

12pm - Put No.3 for his arvo nap

12.30pm - Put No.2 for his arvo nap.

12.35pm - 2.15pm - Do housechore of the day, prepare dinner, fold laundry.

2.20pm - Wake No.2 and No.3 and get them to drink their milkies.

2.45pm - Go to school to pick up No.1. This is also a time I spend quality time with No.2. We hang out in the school playground (it’s super cool), eating our snacks and playing with each other, waiting for the school bell to ring at 3.30pm. It’s the best time of the day. I am literally forced to do nothing but play. It’s rather relaxing.

3.50pm - Prepare dinner.

4.30pm - No.2 and No.3 have their dinner.

5pm - No.1 has his dinner, together with me.

5.30pm - Shower time for all three boys.

6pm - Milkie time for No.3 - that’s where I spend my quality time with him. He sleeps thereafter. No.1 and No.2 would be busy doing their own thing.

6.30pm - Milkie time for No.2. I read story books with No.1.

7pm - Lights out. Time for bed for No.1 and No.2.

7-9.30pm - Preparing for the next day. That includes, preparing No.3’s frozen meals, preparing all the raw meats (if I had bought them), cleaning the entire kitchen - putting away the dishes, cutlery, wiping benchtops, wiping the floor, and thoroughly cleaning the stoves. I’m getting so obsessed with a clean stove. Back in KL, I used to live with a grimy stove. But not here…  me thinks it’s the idea of it being ‘new’. Heh..just want to keep it pristine looking.

9.30pm - Come out for air then, crash .  Do my own work - online, watch tv. Sometimes, if I feel like it, I shower. (Heh..just seeing if u actually read the whole thing!)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My house chores for the week are (I try very hard to keep each chore within 30-40minutes - any longer and I’d be dead on the floor):

Monday, Friday - Wash all bathrooms/toilets.

Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday - Sweep and mop all floors.

Wednesday, Saturday - Vaccum carpets on first floor.

As you can see… everyday is pretty much the same. Except for the weekends. When we do go out…it’s usually for one event. Anymore than 1 event and, I’ll extremely tired at the end of the day. Because…no matter what, I still have all these things to do. I can’t throw everything on the floor, take off my clothes, turn on the telly and drink my coke/beer. I’m sure all moms are thinking…hey..My husband does that!

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!  So..what’s a typical day for you?

  1. mott,
Basically you only sleep for only 5 hours? Wah! You’re one super mom lah. I salute! :) Just wondering where’s no.3 when you pick up no.1 with no.2?

My days are also the same everyday. Maybe, that’s what we called life eh? Hmm…

Hang on there! This will all be paid off once all your kids are working (I know it’s a long way but time flies!). Then you really can shake legs and watch telly! Take care there, mott! :)

  3. Oh, I never ever thought SAHM had it easy, at least not for the maidless ones. I spent weekends toiling like a slave and I can already feel the exhaustion. I don’t think I can do this 24/7. So, I really SALUTE youlah.

  7. you are a supermom, Mott.

i’m also a neat freak with traces of OCD myself, i need to mop the floor as often as 3 times a day and Dettol was the only think i trusted. with two young kids, i, too broke down because they were demanding kids and i worked day in and out like a robot. then one day, i learnt from a friend to take an easy way out on some days by letting them eat from disposables and save me from washing the plates. they also had fun eating outdoor.. no cleaning up messy kitchens and dining tables. so when i get all weary, my disposables are out and tv dinners are in.
